6th Assignment – Blogging 201 – Writing Poetry Ballad – Heroine, Anaphora/Epistrophe

6th Assignment – Blogging 201 – Writing Poetry Ballad – Heroine, Anaphora

Day 6 and I am up to date with my assignments.  Yeah!  I completed my Ballad about a Heroine using the poetic device Anaphora.

This is my imagining of what a young Priestess would say about her Goddess upon ordination.  It is no way historically accurate or even a slice of history.  It is just me and some words.

If I knew then what I know now

I would have

……….Hung my head in supplication

I would have

……….Danced naked in your presence

.

You have risen me from despair into hope

……….From disrepute into honour

.

If knew then what I know now

I would have

……….Picked sacred herbs until my fingers bled

I would have

……….Drunk poppy juice until the truth flowed freely

.

You have replaced my chains of slavery with freedom

……….Shown me the clues to great happiness

.

If I knew then what I know now

I would have

……….Plaited flowers and worn them in my hair

I would have

……….Sat in silent meditation on your virtues

.

You taught me the ways of love

……….To see you in the moon and the stars

.

If I knew then what I know now

I would have

……….Borne the lessons without struggle

I would have

……….Lifted my voice in joyous song

.

You have given me the strength

……….To face demons dark

……….To stand alone free from fear

.

If I knew then what I know now

I would have

……….Bowed down to you the day I was born

.

5th Assignment – Elegy, Fog, Metaphor

Blogging U 201 – Writing Poetry – 5th Assignment – Elegy, Fog, Metaphor

misty morning 2

Elegy of you

The veil descends, mutable grey, tangible heartache

Unknown, wrapped alone the shroud tears illusion away

Gently, silver tendrils swirl tenderly, grasp your bright soul

Rising, darkness illuminated dissipates mist, my heart lightens

My last memory of you disappears into the fog, quietly

Assignment 3 – Blogging U 201 – Poetry – Acrostic, Trust, Internal Rhyme

Assignment 3 – Blogging U 201 – Poetry – Acrostic, Trust, Internal Rhyme

I must apologize to my friend followers and those I visit regularly for not popping by or commenting on your posts.  I have been so focused on writing poetry, which I struggle with as if shedding my own skin,  I have not maintained my social graces.  This morning,  so intent on writing,  I let an important appointment slip my mind.   Ooops.

Anyway to get on with the post.  Here is my offering for assignment #3 – Acrostic on Trust with an Internal Rhyme.   The internal rhyme is not as subtle as I would like, but it is there.

Trust in Yourself

Touch a match to the torch

Restrain the stain of shadows insane

Undulating in the corners.

Sustain the light of truth

Through the pain of the darkness.

Assignment 2 – Writing 201 – Limerick, Journey, Alliteration

Assignment #2 Blogging U – Writing Poetry 201

I am late with my offering for day two.  I love writing poetry, but it is such a difficult task for me, like pulling teeth. One word at a time.

The assignment was to create a Limerick about a Journey that uses alliteration as a device.   It’s a little weak on alliteration but I think I achieved the idea of a journey and the sense of a limerick.   The Journey is the struggle or the work that is done while meditating to move your mind from chaos to tranquility.

Journey from Chaos to Peace

Once on my cushion, I sit still

To tame the emotions to my will

Dismiss from my mind

Chaos not in line

With the peace I wish to instill.
