zachI am 26 years old and live in Maine with my lovely wife, Layla, our two dogs and two cats. I currently work as the director of security at a local college. Working in a field like security, despite the fact that often I was a manager and in charge of sensitive situations, I found myself with plenty of time to dream up stories. 8th Assignment – Ode, Drawer, Apostrophe

Ode to my Dance Partner

 .

Slim smooth glide slowly across the page

A passive partner in the tango of words

Portrait painter of language

 .

How could I proceed without you to lead

My words are your words

My thoughts are your impetus to impress on paper

Your firm body straight

Held angled against by fingers

The world around us forgotten by your caress

 .

Where would my images be without your sacrifice

Lost in the ether without a home to go to

Shamelessly I use you

Waltz you around the wide white space

Boldly drain you, devastate your reservoir

Precious lifes’ blood

 .

How dare I be so reckless with your heart

Circles, squares, squiggles

Doddles drawn in despair

Hide my hesitation to commit

 .

Do you even notice when I neglect you

Forgotten you, Foxtrot with another

Tap Tap Tap empty characters on a screen

Void of personality and movement

 .

Do you wait in the drawer wanting to be free

To make your mark on the world

 .
